Learn to Row

Learn to Row

At Curtin University Boat Club

Throughout the year we open our shed doors at CUBC to anyone who wishes to try out the sport of rowing! These sessions are coached and supervised by experienced members of the club who are passionate about the sport.

At the beginning of the year we hold free sessions across February/ March for anyone who wants to come down. These sessions line up perfectly with the beginning of our season, where at the end of your taster you can decide if you'd like to stick with us and join our ever growing Novice Squad for a year filled with training, social events and of course racing!

The upcoming sessions are:

5-7pm on Thursday the 22nd and 29th of February

8-10am on the 24th of February and the 2nd of March.

Look forward to seeing you there!

What does it Include

  • An introduction to the club.

  • A tour of the boat shed & break down of our fleet.
  • Learning how to  "Ergo" (use a Rowing Machine) like a rower!
  • On water introduction to single sculling.

What to Wear/ Bring

  • Fitted Top as loose clothing can be caught by the oars.
  • Shorts as you will be in knee deep water for part of the session.
  • Sneakers/ Trainers for exercises on the rowing machines (on land).
  • Water Bottle, especially if the weather is looking very warm!
  • Hat, as the reflection of the water can be very strong in the summer months.
  • Towel, just in case!!! Some people may like to bring a spare change of clothes just to be sure.
  • Reef Shoes (Optional), not to be worn in the boat but you may spend some time holding boats for other learners in the shallows and we do have some rocks and sharp shells.
